The previous qualifications for External Verifiers were D35 or V2, which were replaced by a new suite of qualifications in 2011. The new standards referred to external verification as external quality assurance which is where the acronym EQA came from, therefore the role previously known as an EV or External Verifier, was replaced by the role EQA or External Quality Assurer.

The current set of external verification / external quality assurance qualifications are broken down into 3 qualifications as set out below:

Learn with Carl Bromilow from CB Consultancy and Training (CBC&T)

The above qualifications are delivered and assessed by Carl Bromilow, who is an experienced EQA, Lead EQA and Quality Assurance Director, therefore he is the perfect individual to take you through either one of the qualifications you require to take your next step in your career as an EQA (External Verifier). Unit 1 – Understanding the principles and practices of externally assuring the quality of assessment, can be delivered in house via a face to face option or can be delivered by distance learning via our exclusive EQA Webinar Programme. The practical based units (Units 2 and 3) will be assessed remotely, however there will be a requirement for Carl to accompany you to an EQA visit in order to complete an observation to satisfy the assessment strategy.

Qualification Suitability

  • If you do not currently work for an awarding organisation as an EQA / EV, but would like a qualification in order to take your first steps as an EQA / EV or if you wish to gain an understanding of the principles and practices of external quality assurance without any requirement to practice (e.g. a training provider who would like to prepare more robustly for EQA/EV visits), then the Level 4 Award in Understanding the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is the qualification most suited to you.
  • If you are already in a quality/EV/EQA role as part of an awarding organization and require a recognised external quality assurer (EQA) / external verification (EV) qualification, then the Level 4 Award in Externally Assuring the Quality of Assessment Processes and Practice is the qualification most suited to you. • If you are currently part of an awarding organization as a Lead EQA / Head of Quality (leading a team of external quality assurers) and you would like formal recognition for that role, then the Level 4 Certificate in Leading the External Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice is the qualification most suited to you.
